Sept 7 Niger v Uganda (Niamey)
Bobby Williamson could not wait to receive quick feet and lightening Cranes winger Dan Wagaluka fresh from Europe for professional trials in his camp last night as he waited for a cluster of his stars to jet in and join him at Namboole where the team is residing. The Cranes star who rattled a shouting shot into the Angolan net is heavily expected to play a pivotal role in Bobby’s team and the jovial Scot spoke volumes about the DVD he watched about the inestimable abilities of the pint sized winger as he attempts to derail the 32 year jinx of the country at Africa’s major competition. “I watched him on a DVD availed to me during the match against Angola and he had an excellent game. I have no doubt in him,” the bespectacled Cranes tactician said of URA star, Wagaluka. However, Wagaluka will not want to hear that there is heated competition for his place. KCC’s Vincent Kayizi in terrific form and ever improving Atraco winger Joseph Kabagambe are jealously vying for his precious outer right midfield position. Bobby, will have daring and sleepless nights over the three illustrious players despite distancing himself from the subject when Pepper Sport quizzed him at last night’s drills. In trying to run away from the competitive situation posed by the presence of the three players, the Cranes boss said, “I will have no problem choosing players in that position. We will sit with Sam and David and come up with the right set of players for the Saturday game.” Meanwhile, Iceland based Andy Mwesigwa arrived on Sunday night but had not reported to the camp by press time. A couple of the stars from South Africa; Timothy Batabaire and Onyango Dennis plus Geoffrey Serunkuma and Geoffrey Massa were expected in the country by last night. Bobby is expected to drop more of the local players today to pave room for his foreign stars. “The likes of Muwanga, Mawejje, Dhaira and others are good players and we have to keep them for the future. I will not change the team that has been playing all along in this competition,” said Bobby. Hearts United star David Obua and Michael Serumaga are expected to join their colleagues in this afternoon’s drills at Namboole. There are question marks over the availability of Armenia based Noah Kasule Babadi as no communication has been made about his whereabouts since the Niger game in Kampala and Asani Bajope reported to be in Congo with his family.
