Bwindi Mountain Gorilla

There are only about 900 mountain gorillas left on Earth and trekking into their native forests is the only way to see these critically endangered gorillas, as they cannot survive in zoos very well.

Trekking for gorillas in Uganda’s emerald rain forests and observing the everyday interactions of these vulnerable primates is arguably one of life’s greatest experiences. Though this extra ordinary experience will cost you it’s worth it.

So where are the best places to see mountain gorillas in Uganda

Bwindi impenetrable national park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley. The dense thick and large forest ages from way about 25000 years back.

This home to half of the world’s left gorillas. With over 500 gorillas, Bwindi impenetrable national park is not a home to gorillas only. Monkeys and reptiles also enjoy this gorgeous wild life environment. With plenty of chameleons and snakes as well.

This biologically diverse region also provides shelter to a further 120 mammals, several primate species such as baboons and chimpanzees, as well as elephants and antelopes. There are around 350 species of birds hosted in this forest, not forgetting the Albertine Rift endemics.

The Mubare gorilla group was the first to become available for tourism in Uganda in April 1993. Nine groups are now habituated for tourism, and one for research. In Bwindi there are about 13 families that a tracked with Buhoma, Ruhija,Nkuringi dominating the game.

Mount Mghahinga Gorilla national park

Hiking around the foothills of the Mghahinga gives visitors the chance to spot forest birds, the Rugezi Swamp, wild vegetation, bamboo forests and glorious views of the surrounding lakes and agricultural villages.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is also in the southern parts of Uganda just a few kilometers from Bwindi impenetrable national park. This park is near the countries o Rwanda and Congo that are also homes to mountain gorillas.

In an area of about 33.7 sq kilometers, the mountain gorillas have plenty of land to roam about the whole forest in search of food.This park is one of the few places in the world where the endangered mountain gorillas live in the wild.
